HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE RAWAHIYYA ARABIC COLLEGE

Rawahiyya Arabic College is situated in a village called Dehianga, surrounded by mountains. This village is in the Yatinuwara electorate in the district of Kandy, just ten kilometers away from Kandy town.

Ulamas are the important leaders of the community and their contribution to the society is vital. In this sphere, their pivotal role has been establishing Arabic colleges in the island. But the number of such college started by them had been few far between. The reason behind this shortfall in these institutions had been mainly due to lack of interest among the parents and their children to these centers of learning has been very law. 

With the Allah’s grace, the immense growth and Da’wah work in the community has created a big demand for religions education in the Muslim community because a parent wanted his child to be an Alim or a Hafiz, at least one in a family. There for the Ulamas, welfare workers intellectuals of the community made since after in this regard and started Arabic college in their village and towns.

In this context, Dehianga with a large Muslim community also started an Arabic college but due to some reason or other this could not be continued but due to the effort and pains taken by some others later. An Arabic college was started with the name Rawahiyya and today it has completed 18 years. Alhamdulillah

The above college was started after Asar on 25/05/1994 with just two teachers and ten students. It was inaugurated by As Sheikh P.M.M Hanifa (Adam Lebbe Hazarath).

Masjidul Hasanath at Godamuduna Mahalla was a small Thakkiya then. (But it is a too storied beautiful Masjidh, thanks to the grace of Nubuwath Education). Memorization of the Holy Quran was started by the students. 

After 2 years four or five students finished the memorization and along with them some others two joined when Sharia section was started due to the problems of accommodation effort ware made to have a building with facilities. Then according to a transfer deed by the grate benefiter Marhoom Mohamed Quasim (Wlawwa Quasim Arachchi) who willed donation of land to a well-run madrasa, His grand sun Al Haj wazeerul hussain transferred the said plot of land to the present madrasa through its trustees (May Allah Shower his merits and blessing on both).

After a couple weeks the principal of Akurana Rahmaniyya Arabic College, most respectable Shikhur Rahmani Jiffry hazarath arranged with Saudi Arabian beneficiary Marhoom Abdullah Al-Mansoor Az Zamil was brought the site and presented the building requirements, the Sheikh undertook to build a 100` X 25` three storied building with great pleasure.

With Allah’s great grace the foundation for the building was laid on Al-Hijri 1420 Ramadan, 2nd Day and the work was partly completed and it was opened on 18- 03- 2002. This success could be attributed to the grate magnanimity of the Sheikh and the generosity of the many villages and a few neighbors.

It’s a well know fact that of present, with Allah’s grace, the present three storied building has a student population of 75 with 9 Ustaads, 4 part time teachers and 2 minor employees. As mark of success, the students who pursue studies in other schools are provided facilities to study the Holy Quran and religion in the afternoon. Holy Quran memorization classes ware started on 12/02/2006. 

From the beginning of this year students are sitting for the G.C.E. (O.L) With the humble beginning 17 years ago this Arabic College has produced 39 Alims and 65 Hafils who are with Allah`s approved are involved in several social and religions duties in several Madarasas in several parts of the country. 

An extent of land 92 perches in close proximately to the college was donated a plot of land close to the bus terminus at Dehianga in order to put-up a shop building so that it could generate a source of permanent income, in the form of rent. Rawahiya`s steady progress would be attributed to the uniting efforts of the present administration the people of the village also have immensely contributed to this marked progress. May Allah bestow his blessings to all of them.

Now there is a need for guidance and steering the students for change in their curriculum and activates so that they would be able to sit for government exams like G.C.E. O/L and A/Ls. This will enable them to acquire qualifications which would help them to cater to the employment needs of the future. We`ve a program designed to achieve this end.

Further at present Sharia and Holy Quran memorization courses are conducted in the same premise where the student’s dormitories are located. Because of this situation we are facing serious problems. Therefore we have planned a separate block for these two subjects mentioned. We are praying to Allah with the absolute faith that he would provide this urgent need of ours. We are also seeking the generous help of our Muslim brothers and sisters. This building also would be 80` X 50` and three storied. 

May Allah (Sub) more wealth. This is an Arabic collage which serves all sectors of the community. But it has its dire needs. Therefore my brothers, we hope that this will be the ideal place to bestow your Sadaqathul Jaariya. This is our honorable rest.
